There is a legend that the Prussian Queen Louise fled Berlin when she was being pursued by troops of Napoleon and hid her children in a cornflower field. She wove wreaths to distract them from danger. The German coat of arms is a black eagle with a red beak, tongue, and paws on a golden background. It is considered the oldest symbol of Europe. The eagle stands for invincibility and is also the national animal of Germany. The Brandenburg Gate is a symbol of German reunification.
